Apache Jackrabbit – Open Source Content Management System CMS
Apache Jackrabbit is an open source content management system that works with the Java developement platform.
The Jackrabbit website allows users to download the codebase and compile it as is or into custom CMS applications.
This may require the expertise of a coder, to implement existing nodes from the development community, or create new custom features to fit the needs of a specific organization.
As with most open source projects, Jackrabbit has a large developer community online with mailing lists, hundreds of contributors, forums and other informational websites to help with implementation.
This content repository software uses a hierarchical content storage system.
It has all of the features you’d expect from a cutting edge CMS, and because it is open source, the codebase can be upgraded customized with nodes or new code by application developers.

Parts of Jackrabbit are used in Open Source applications such as Hippo CMS at http://www.onehippo.com/, OpenKM – another open source cms, as well as commercial software applications.
